You have a wonderful idea.   You want to sell sun glasses.  You’ve already picked the “how” to sell them and the “where” to sell them.  Now you just need to figure out where YOU can get the sun glasses and actually make a profit doing it!  You have to buy wholesale merchandise or else you would never recoup what you paid for the sun glasses. 

For the sake of argument, let’s say you sell your sun glasses on eBay.  To do this competitively, you’ll need to do some research.  You would probably want to seek out the most popular sun glasses by going to an actual retailer.  See which products are not selling (clearance or discounted items) and find out which sun glasses are selling like hot cakes. 

Once you’ve found this information, you want to find out how to get the merchandise.   One of the best ways to buy wholesale merchandise is to attend some sort of tradeshow that is selling the goods you want to market.   You can also purchase wholesale by searching online, becoming a member of a buying group, and even tapping the local libraries resources. 

You want to be on the lookout for the different types of suppliers of wholesale goods you can resource:  manufacturers, importers, distributors, other wholesale and liquidators, and of course Auctions.  Sometimes a manufacturer will sell directly to a retailer.  If they do, see if they’ll give a discount for large quantity purchases.  Importing has gotten easier.  Just do your homework when dealing with foreign and overseas companies.  Distributors might sell the goods a bit higher, but you can find a deal like free freight on orders of a certain quantity.  Auctions like eBay can give a lot of merchandise ideas as well as good deals.
